Catherine White: Founder and Director

1–2 minutes

Catherine White is an award-winning journalist, video producer, and media trainer. She is the founder of Cat White Media, a digital-first news agency that helps organisations and newsrooms tell powerful stories for today’s social media audiences. Her work has appeared on platforms such as TimesLIVE, Sunday Times, Business Day TV, SABC News Channel, Newzroom Afrika, MailOnline and Viory.

Catherine is also the communications lead for the Campaign for Free Expression and the project manager of the Speak Up SA initiative, which brings together leading journalists, students, and activists to reimagine freedom of expression in South Africa.

From producing explainers that reach millions of organic views on TikTok and Instagram, to running hands-on training workshops for journalists and NGOs, Catherine is passionate about making complex issues clear, engaging, and accessible.

The vision? To bridge the gap between journalism, advocacy, and digital storytelling, amplifying voices that matter.

Our reporting makes complex issues accessible and relevant, covering themes such as freedom of expression, governance, climate, and human rights. We combine investigative rigour with creative digital storytelling, ensuring that important stories resonate with both mainstream and marginalised communities, in South Africa and beyond.

While rooted in South Africa, our reporting extends across borders and is shaped by a distinctly Global South perspective, amplifying voices, experiences, and narratives that are too often underrepresented in mainstream media.

We work across formats, from digital-first video and multimedia stories to print and audio features, but our primary focus is the online space, where we use social media platforms to reach and engage broad, diverse audiences.
